Chax Leopard Alpha 2
The last build had a problem where preferences could not be saved if the Chax preferences file did not already exist. This build should fix that problem. Growl notifications would also not work due to this bug, so they should work better now. In the way of features, the activity window is back as well as status changes in conversations. A new feature, albeit minor, is the ability to use the scroll wheel to switch through tabs. Next up, I hope, is the return of dock notification options.Again, download SIMBL or PlugSuit and put Chax in ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins.This build is not to be posted on MacUpdate, VersionTracker, or other software update sites.Additions:
- Activity window
- Show status changes in messages
- Scroll wheel over the chat list when using tabs switches between chats
- ICQ bug should be fixed now

Hi, thanks a lot for your work! HTML-stripping and contact-list resizing works really fine now! Two other features would be really nice, but i don't know if they are possible: * showing contact lists in one window (i have icq und aim) * showing all contacs in status-menu, not online available ones

Thanks so much! A feature request, if it's feasible: * prevent Spaces from changing when someone new IMs you Keep up the great work. We appreciate it!

Thanks kent. One Question: The way growl displays the ichat4/chax notifications are different than those with adium. The ichat4/chax are much more confusing because it displays the idle-message of the users as well which often seem like a message and i always have to double-check in my ichat status if it's really a message or not, which totally kills the whole experience and use of notifications. Does this have to do with chax or is it some growl thing? But if it's growl, then why does it display it "correctly" with adium? Is there a way you could set notifications to display as it does with adium? So that the name appears in bold but instead of the idle-message underneath, you replace it with the status-info (like "became active, offline, or the message itself). This way it would be so much less confusing. Let me know what you think, thanks a lot!
Marc at 2007-11-01 11:37:40 -0400
You basically move the status-info underneath the name instead of like now, where it is next to the name. By moving "went offline" underneath the name and replacing the idle-message it would be much more clear what's going on and not confuse. That option would be great

You're work is awesome and appreciated. I too would like to voice my vote for a single contact window, if it's possible. So annoying to have 3 contact windows open all the time. Thanks!

This is so great. I totally missed the "auto resize contactlist" & "customize contactlist fonts" features. It's like having a whole new iChat 4. Thank you very much for your great work!

Keith, I would LOVE if in the dock it told you WHO was im'ing you like it used to. It shows numbers but you can't show the screen name. Thanks for your hard work.

I'm seeing an issue where I can not scroll with the trackpad (haven't tried a mouse yet) in my Buddy List. I can scroll in chats, just not in my Buddy List?

thanks

Thanx a lot for your work. I have two feature request. * If it's possible, can you make codepage selector/converter for AIM/ICQ accounts? * can you write a plugin/module for jabber services configuration. i think this feature is missing in the box.. Thank you very much again!

Would like to see this stuff fixed/added: - BROKEN: Scrolling in contact list. - ENHANCEMENT: Auto-accept messages toggle.
mr.ghost at 2007-11-03 05:48:53 -0400
Waiting for same features as warrior mentioned above. Thank You.

Eventually will Chax be standalone from SIMBL or Plugsuit? If not, what are the directions for using Chax with Plugsuit?
Oliver at 2007-11-03 17:54:06 -0400
Sorry, but it does not show up in my iChat preferences even after adding it to both main library folder and user library folder. Now what? Oliver
Micha at 2007-11-04 05:59:38 -0500
@MATT go to prefs -> alerts -> applescript -> auto-accept/auto-decline
Martin Ancher Holm at 2007-11-04 09:47:49 -0500
Thanks again. Nice having auto-resize again.
Tye at 2007-11-04 12:34:32 -0500
@ Micha and MATT: I tried using the Auto-Accept applescript thats included but it causes a strange problem. At certain times when it auto-accepts an incoming chat, the newly created chat will ALWAYS stay as the foremost window. This means if I'm browsing in Safari, the iChat window will cover part of Safari until I actually *CLOSE* the iChat window. This was so annoying that I went back to accepting the chats by hand. Has anyone else experienced this? Can Chax add the option back in that doesn't cause this issue?
Allan at 2007-11-04 15:28:29 -0500
I can't get the Groups font to change. The contacts change fine and so does the status message fonts. Also, sign me up for a combined Jabber/AIM contact list- If it could be called just "Buddy List" or maybe "Combined Contacts"- in the title - I would be happy. I have another issue not mentioned here, I have chats dating back to 2004 and Chax totally chokes on these on LEopard. iChat 4 now creates folders for each day but Chax can't read these. iChat crashes each time I attempt to access that menuitem. So I don't. Thank you for a great product.

Hi - you rock.... The one feature I would like to see in chax is the ability to merge all the buddy lists/contacts into one list. This to me is the most glaring omission in iChat that keep me from using it 100% Thank you for all your hard work
dave at 2007-11-05 05:05:11 -0500
in the event that repetition isn't annoying but illustrates the widespread need for this specific feature, i'm also a huge advocate for all accounts to be merged into one buddy list. Like Eytan this is the one feature that stops me from using ichat as my primary chat client.
Jack at 2007-11-05 11:41:11 -0500
Great work Kent. One question: Is there a way to turn off the audio alert notification for "text messages" while simultaneously using an "audio" Chat with another person? It is maddening when speaking to someone on iChat that they hear every text chat that someone else may send. I can't figure out how to turn it off. Thanks.
Richard at 2007-11-05 17:21:19 -0500
I know Im being thick, but how do I add an icq buddy by number?
doddFasha at 2007-11-05 19:36:08 -0500
Scrolling broken. Might have already been mentioned. Chax rocks. Thanks.
Philip at 2007-11-05 22:12:35 -0500
It seems that when scrolling was implemented in chat windows to switch between tabs, I can no longer scroll within the iChat buddy list window. So um, I guess this is a bug report of that, unless it's already been mentioned. Feature request though, will it be possible to reimplement switching between tabs with a key-combination rather than with scrolling?
Jyrki Lilja at 2007-11-06 11:24:51 -0500
Scrolling the buddy list works if one uses the mouse over the scrollbar. Kent, if I want to make a Finnish translation of Chax is it ok to just translate the Localizable.strings and send it to you? Or is it stupid to make the translation in alpha status? -jyrki

Hey, I love Chax. I would love to be able to turn off specific types of Growl messages, for example I don't need to know when people go Away or Idle.
