Aloha, The copyright on version 1.4.7 is 2005-2006, but should probably be 2005-2007. Not crucial, but I thought you might want ot correct it. ;-) Thad

josue at 2007-01-22 04:33:09 -0500

The Version History on the Chax homepage doesn't have the list of changes in this new build. Thanks for your hard work.

Antoine Quint at 2007-01-22 04:39:40 -0500

Unfortunately, 1.4.7 wiped off all contacts from my AIM buddy list, and uninstalling it doens't get it back for me, and doesn't let me add anyone anymore. I backed up my system yesterday, so I should find a way to fix it, but that seems like a major bug that never happened to me with the the 1.4.7 beta releases. Also, the Console didn't have any meaningful message. Sorry not to have a lot of details, maybe there are logs elsewhere that I can look for?

David at 2007-01-22 09:04:16 -0500

Hi-- The 1.4.7 installer can't remove the 1.4.7b2 version from my system--says to check my permissions and try again. I repaired permissions with Disk Utility, but still no luck. Can I manually uninstall 1.4.7b2 and then try again? Is there another solution? Thanks....

Antoine Quint at 2007-01-22 09:21:54 -0500

Hmm, going to sleep and waking back up got my contact list back. How odd.

Matt at 2007-01-22 09:34:12 -0500

One feature I would love to see is the ability to hide people from the Bonjour window. Where I am , there are over 30 people listed in Bonjour, but I only ever want to talk to 2 or 3 or them. Keep up the good work.

Simon at 2007-01-22 12:12:05 -0500

Feature request: Bonjour Group Chat. I looked everywhere, and to my surprise, it seems we can't group chat with Bonjour. I hope I'm wrong! Chax is amazing by the way.

when im on my computer i change the current application by using apple tab. ive noticed that ichat doesn't do the apple tab the right way since i downloaded chax. thanks

MysticalOS at 2007-01-22 15:03:29 -0500

Antoine Quint: your contact list was a server side bug. AOL's been messing with servers, a lot of third party clients been having abnormal behaviors, including ichat. Some even needed patching. David: Is it installed in user folder or all users folder (which does require an admin account to change). Are you on an admin account or a sub account? the problem is likely in OS X somewhere. Try creating a new user then installing from that to all users just to see if it works, if it does then you ID'd your problem.

Ever since I upgraded from 1.4.6 to 1.4.7, iChat has been giving me the beachball of death and freezing iChat for 15-30 seconds every other IM i type in! Its quite annoying. Anything I can do to fix it?

mrjones at 2007-01-22 15:32:16 -0500

Love Chax! Feature Request: When starting a new chat, pre-populate the chat window with the last, say 5 lines of the conversation with that person from the chat log. That way if you asked a question yesterday and then your buddy responds today, you know the question you asked.

Wayne at 2007-01-22 16:53:32 -0500

Hi - I just upgraded to 1.4.7, and Chax has totally disappeared from my system. Its no longer in the library/inputmanagers folder, and attempts at reinstalling for both single and all users do not work as well. Any ideas?

Wayne at 2007-01-22 16:59:14 -0500

Also tried creating a new account and installing from there -- didn't work.

Rob at 2007-01-23 02:05:26 -0500

Hi, Just downloaded the new release. I am still missing a feature called "autosize to online users". (I have about two dozen contacts in my contactlist and two thirds of them are mostly not online. I would love that my contact list resizes automatically to the online-guys... thanks In case I have missed this feature (I know there is an autosizer for all but not online ones)... thanks for a nice ichataddon... :-)

Ben at 2007-01-23 11:04:51 -0500

Love the new release. I have a feature request: I would love to get Growl notifications when buddies change their status messages? I don't want to be notified when the go online/offline/idle/etc - too much noise. But I do want to see when they change their status message text. Is that something you can get a hook into and publish to Growl? Thanks for such a great app!

Brian Hagemann at 2007-01-23 12:51:31 -0500

Continues to be the #1 (or 2 ;-) ) system add-on i recommend to all my friends and family. Thanks much... Small issue started with this release... whenever I view logs for someone it tells me my logfile dates need fixing. I let it fix them and it goes thru and seems to do its thing. They all LOOK ok to me by the way, I can read the logs and don't see unusual dates anywhere. BUT the next time i pick "view log file" it does it again.

zc at 2007-01-24 00:21:52 -0500

Since the contact page is down, i thought I would give a bug report here. It's bit of a corner case, but annoying enough, especially since I encounter it almost daily, using tabbed browsing: joining a Jabber chat that pops up warnings/errors will stall iChat for 10-20 seconds, until the warning is shown. This also involves popping up a new chat tab for the admin account which sends the error.

David at 2007-01-24 14:40:21 -0500

Chax is really excellent. Is there a way to make all iChat windows always on top? We'd like to keep our application focus in Opera and have new video windows appear on top. Feature Request: Always-on-top can be defaulted to yes/no in the preferences window.

Christopher Lee at 2007-01-24 16:53:37 -0500

Chax is really cool, it may eventually ween me off adium. If you could find a way to have 1 buddy list that incorporated AIM/Bonjour/Jabber into 1 list, I'd be sold on it! great work though, keep it up.

Chris at 2007-01-24 18:34:01 -0500

I don't know if this is just an iChat bug or something new to Chax as I don't think I've actually encountered this situation before. When one person is on one of their screen names on a computer and another one on 'mobile,' when double clicking on the name I think the non-mobile name should be favored. Additionally, and I think this one is a bug with Chax, when I had manually selected the non-mobile name, I would still get the 'you are messaging a mobile user' message every message I sent to them even though I was not messaging their mobile anymore. Finally a related bug that I am also unsure weather it's Chax or just iChat is that frequently I talk to one of my friends who logs in to 3 SNs at the same time, when they go offline, one of the SNs gets set to Mobile while the other two go Offline. When this happens, iChat simply displays the contact as offline. Even when the person re logs in to the SN that had been mobile, they remain offline and it appears that I am talking to someone that's 'invisible' and I must log off then back on to correct the error. I'm really loving chax, I hope this wasn't too long a read :)

Ian at 2007-01-24 23:26:53 -0500

When I click a video icon next to someone's name, it often selects a person other than the one I have selected. I believe it has something to do with the text resizing of the buddy list. I keep mine just slightly smaller than default. Thanks for a great program and great community interaction.

calvin at 2007-01-25 02:40:17 -0500

nice update. p.s. this may be a dumb question, but are you related to kiefer sutherland?

Josh Estelle at 2007-01-25 22:07:13 -0500

There's a bug where when I drag a window by its tab, when there's only one tab, and I have the tabs shown on the top... while dragging it appears that tabs are on the bottom. It's not a huge deal, but kind of awkward. Cheers, Josh

patrick at 2007-01-25 22:52:31 -0500

feature request: allow custom chat background images be set for individual buddies.

Greck Cannon at 2007-01-26 03:46:45 -0500

Chax is what made me give up Proteus for iChat. And I just went to the Leopard Tech Talks last week, and I have to say the animated tabs are where it's at, and you did it without the benefit of Core Animation. Anyway, great job, and now the feature request: Provide a spot to "kind of" rename the "Offline" group and the "Mobile Device" group... not really rename them, because Mobile AIM loses it's mind if you rename "Mobile Device", but just for display purposes. I use funky (日本語) group names and those two stick out like a sore thumb.

John Brochu at 2007-01-27 21:07:49 -0500

I love Chax - but there is a recurring problem that is very annoying... when I add or remove buddies from my Buddy List, "offline" buddies appear in the online list - I have to quit iChat and relauch to correct the problem. I have the prefs set to auto-size the window. Is it just me or are others seeing this?

Howard Liptzin at 2007-01-28 06:38:57 -0500

I'm a chax fan, and recent *DONOR* :) Feature request: show XMPP resource (name of client that they are using) either in info about buddy and/or on mouseover of their name. thanks for your great work.

Max at 2007-01-28 13:30:44 -0500

I'd like to provide a feature suggestion: I find myself with contacts on my list that live in different time zones; would anyone else find it helpful to have their local times optionally displayed/hovered with a mouseover next to the user's name?

Simon at 2007-01-28 13:57:52 -0500

As a long-ago donor, all my feature requests have been addressed - so I have one more. Have you considered incorporating Sparkle? Would make the relatively frequent upgrades easier!

Evn at 2007-01-28 15:33:31 -0500

I was recently using iChat with iChax 1.4.7, running iTunes and Safari in the background, and playing StepMania. iChat suddenly quit, so I quit StepMania and reopened iChat, and received the following message: NSInternalInconsistencyException: Error (1000) creating CGSWindow Has anyone heard of this? I don't know if it's associated with iChax, but I've never had anything like it happen before I installed iChax.

Evn at 2007-01-28 15:35:02 -0500

Sorry I kept calling it iChax in my last comment. Anyway, is there any way to uninstall it? I can't use iChat at all right now, and it's possible that uninstalling it will fix that problem.

Simon at 2007-01-30 11:37:30 -0500

When I check "Use Address Book Nicknames', it doesn't work with my Bonjour buddies (an yeah, I added the "Nickname" field in my Address Book). Is it only me, or there a re many annoying restrictions with Bonjour?

John at 2007-01-30 16:04:25 -0500

I'd like an option to disable the automatic update notification from the dialog that appears. I like being notified when a new version is available, but I don't like having to "Ignore" every time I open iChat until I can stop and apply the update. I'd say the current "Ignore" button should be renamed "Not now" and a new "Ignore" button should mean "Not now, and don't remind me again." Perhaps a checkbox in the dialog to enable or disable the automatic update check should be included as well. I also vote in favor of a recap feature that prepopulates the last few messages exchanged with a buddy when a new chat window is opened. Great work all around, though. Thanks for putting all this together.

Robert Reinhard at 2007-01-30 17:27:27 -0500

Feature Request: (1) Option to just show first name in tabs, so you can see more people at once before it goes off the window (2) Merge AIM and Jabber buddy lists into a single list Great addon!!!!!!!

Wiechu at 2007-01-31 09:23:51 -0500

Sometimes when I open new chat, the tab with name is shorter than name itself, so I can see only 1st letter of Name. Sometimes when I close a tab which is inside of 2 other tabs there's free space left after that, so I can see a tab, free space and an other tab. I never had problems like that before. It started just after upgrading to 1.4.7

Joshua Gonzalez at 2007-02-01 17:00:27 -0500

Kent, If someone else is already trying to localize in Spanish Chax disregard. If not let me know how I can be of assistance to you. I speak Colombian Spanish and understand Castilian. Cheers, Joshua

Hi all, I'm a new Chax user and I love it. But when I set iChat to hide, it automatically pops up everytime I get a new IM. Is there a way to hid iChat using Chax?

Sim D at 2007-02-05 21:39:46 -0500

Is it possible to hide all accounts signed on via a mobile account from the buddy list? Thanks for the great app by the way!

ljun at 2007-02-05 23:05:13 -0500

i'm not sure if this is just me but .... when I open up the log viewer, it's completely empty. So I'm never able to utilize this feature.... any ideas? :)

david at 2007-02-05 23:26:03 -0500

i just want to reiterate christopher lee's feature request. the separate lists for aim, jabber and bonjour is the one of the only features i truly miss from Adium. that and chat history as described by mrjones. thanks for great enhancements!

Josh at 2007-02-06 00:56:06 -0500

What if there was a way to force-update away messages? Often, I find that the away message has been changed up to 30 mins before It changes on my screen. This is quite annoying.

Zitaos at 2007-02-06 03:50:09 -0500

Hey, I love Chax, especially for the tabbed chatting, but is there a way to view the last conversation that you had with someone when you open a new chat window (i.e. Adium)? Thanks for all you hard work! Zitaos

Peter Paul Sadlon at 2007-02-08 16:08:19 -0500

Conflict with UNO 1.3.2. The First tab appears full width. Additional tabs are a narrowed width that's basically just wide enough to show the first half of the first letter in the name. This conflict is not seen in 1.4.7b2.

matt at 2007-02-08 16:13:40 -0500

does anyone have a link for 1.4.7 beta 3 download? i would very much like to try it.

Peter Paul Sadlon at 2007-02-08 17:12:02 -0500

The unintall bug mentioned by David also causes the installer to not install version 1.4.7. Manual uninstallation entails removal of the Chax folder from "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins" or "~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins". Fortunately I tend to keep the last a copy of stable version and if it's newer the latest beta I've downloaded burned to disc.

Peter Paul Sadlon at 2007-02-08 17:18:44 -0500

Opps wrong button (Hit enter instead of return) As I was saying, the uninstallers for versions 1.4.6 & 1.4.7b2 both work.

Stitz at 2007-02-08 23:27:22 -0500

I've found a big bug in the otherwise splendid Chax 1.4.7. "/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat: CMSCreateDataProviderOrGetInfo : Invalid colorspace type" is written to the console.log on average 4 times every second while iChat is open. Needless to say, the console.log gets rather large rather quickly. It seems to occur any time I launch iChat, go on or offline, a buddy goes on or offline, anyone changes status, I switch to or from iChat, and at completely random times. I'm running OS X 10.4.8 with all updates on a Dual G5 Power Mac with 1GB of RAM. My wife has the same error message popping up on her MacBook, running 10.4.8 with all updates, when she first opens iChat. It doesn't repeat incessantly while iChat is open on her laptop. Reverting to Chax 1.4.6 fixed the issue.

Stitz at 2007-02-09 01:34:20 -0500

A second addendum: The problem has now appeared with 1.4.6, though it does not constantly appear like in 1.4.7. I will investigate my older console.logs to see if this issue appeared and I only noticed it when switching to 1.4.7 thanks to my ballooning console.logs. I have a reasonable working theory that a certain buddy icon, which involves a transparent area and may in fact be in PNG format (he may be using Adium if that matters) is the root of this issue, so it seems likely to be a bug in iChat or Chax PNG handling. The issue disappears with Chax 1.4.6 if he's not online. If I turn on "Show Offline Buddies" in iChat, the issue returns. If I replace his icon with a different one and choose "always display this icon," the issue is resolved even if he comes online or I choose to "Show Offline Buddies." A few more set-up details: I have animated icons turned on in Chax, and normally do not have offline buddies displayed in iChat. I also have iChat set to "Use Groups."

I have a feature request. I am a youth pastor and want to send txt messages to students in my group. But currently I have to send one at a time. Could you develop a "send to group" feature? The Trillian for PC has this and I loved it when I was on the PC. I haven't found any MAC OS messaging program that does it. Thanks!
