Re: tab support Thank you, thank you, thank you... I think you get the idea. I'll be donating $20 with my next paycheck.

I've been waiting for this FOREVER! Thank you guys so much!

Thanks a lot!

Wonderful job. I was hoping however that in a future version you could fix something that is unaffected when not using chax. Attempting file transfers when away is impossible with chax... or so I believe. This is somewhat frustrating since it makes the point of talking while away difficult if sending a file.

Allen Hancock at 2006-03-26 21:51:46 -0500

I have been running chax for a while now, and have no troubles with sending or receiveing files in iChat.

Justin at 2006-03-26 22:21:23 -0500

Chax is one of the best things I've gotten for my new Macbook pro, and I am recommending it to all of my Mac friends. Good work :)

Great release Ken - finally someone brought tabbed chatting to iChat!

Awesome update! Thank you very very very much

mary v at 2006-03-27 05:31:59 -0500

i really like this app, but whenever i want to send a message to somone and open a new window/chat w/ tabs, a second window pops up, and if i close it ichat crashes. i dont kow if it is just my mac or what...its nothing major, just a minor hindrance. keep up the phenomenal work.

Awesome ... I'd never tried Chax before 1.4, but I'm trying to switch back from Adium now that you support tabs. One thing ... do you think that groups with no active buddies could be hidden? Group sorting options would be cool, too, as another commenter said. Great work. :)

ryan at 2006-03-27 10:41:10 -0500

This is fantastic. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Great work. Only been using it for a few minutes, but it looks like I'll be using this all the time from here on out.

Great update man, a donation is on the way!

rich ruminations » Chax 1.4 is released - now with Tabs! at 2006-03-27 15:16:50 -0500

[...] Chax, the very cool plugin for iChat, has been updated to version 1.4. Several new features, most notable is support for Tabbed windows when you have multiple chat sessions in progress. I’ve been running the beta version for the past few weeks with no problems. [...]

I love you

Looks VERY nice. One thing I'm wondering about... the encrypted status icon of iChat doesn't seem to be showing with Chax. Need to do some more digging, but does the UI window eliminate that, or are my chats not encrypted when I use Chax? Thanks!

Romeyn Prescott at 2006-03-27 18:56:54 -0500

You, sir, are a god among men. Were it within my power to do so, I would have a statue of your likeness erected at a place of your choosing. I, too, will be making a donation! I just (today) got my MacBook Pro and did not relish the thought of wasting the iSight by using Adium solely for the tabs.

Anonymous at 2006-03-27 19:29:27 -0500

I do like the tabs, but I also have a gripe. With tabs enabled all messages are automatically accepted, and there's no way to use iChat's own initial message dialog before a new chat is added to the tabbed window.

dustmight at 2006-03-28 10:46:13 -0500

Love Chax so far. Just installed it a few minutes ago. I would love to be able to strip out the metal frames and have the chat window opacity be able to be adjusted for those "prying eyes" at work. So far Fire is the only one I can use that has that feature with a combination of a skin and opacity adjustment. I'd love to stay with iChat modified with Chax as the file transfers are flawless in iChat. Many thanks and keep up the good work.

Martin at 2006-03-28 11:02:49 -0500

Thank you...a thousand times over! Only one comment on them - because I work on a larger monitor (1650x1080), the tabs are rather small. I've found it very easy (too easy) to accidently click on the "X" to close a chat when meaning to click on a name. Maybe an option to double click the "X" to intentionally close a chat?

Adam Raymond at 2006-03-28 12:53:56 -0500

Great work! I've been thinking about switching back from Adium, and this might just be the thing that does it for me. I'll be making a donation as well with my next paycheck. One idea for a possible future feature though: A single contact list that contains AIM, Bonjour, and Jabber contacts.

Justin at 2006-03-28 14:23:28 -0500

I really enjoy Chax as well! I am writing to second the suggestion of combining AIM, Bonjour and Jabber contacts into one list. Is this feasible?

mike at 2006-03-28 22:21:39 -0500

good job on this release. i have a few ideas for future versions: Enhanced profile editing Multiple (AIM) screennames at once

kai at 2006-03-29 17:04:39 -0500

Awesome awesome plugin for iChat. Another idea for future versions: Timestamps that appear each minute, even if the chatting is constant. One of the things I dislike about iChat is that when I look through backlogs, I can't tell what time I said something during a lengthy conversation. I wonder if there's also a way to set up the logs for iChat like Adium so that they're all in one spot and easy to preview.

Tabbed Browsing is excellent. Its a feature which has been missing on iChat for so goddamn long! However it'd be nice if the tab selection followed focus. What I mean by this is if you have enough tabs open so that a few are off screen (leading to the double arrow >> being used), and you shift+command+right a few times to select on of them, the tab doesn't appear on the tab bar. It'd be nice if the tabbed bar "moved" rotated the tabs so that the tab of the person we are talking to always appears in it. But that's a minor issue. This is a great program. Excellent work, guys!

Isilya at 2006-03-31 07:39:58 -0500

Thank you very much for this application--it's a perfect solution for me. Such a clean, elegant solution to iChat's limited functionality. Thank you!

Steve at 2006-03-31 11:05:45 -0500

Great pluging. One feature request is to combine all buddy lists into one. I have one Jabber friend (on GoogleTalk) and therefore I have to keep two buddy lists open just to see that contact. Keep up the good work!

Michael at 2006-03-31 13:27:00 -0500

I didn't read above what people said, so if something is repeated, then concider it a popular opinion :D Anyhow, I REALLY appreciate all that you do for iChat to make it a great chat client! If you didn't already know, Dave Hamilton, the CEO of the online publication "The Mac Observer" is a very big fan of your plugin. He mentions it on his podcast "The Mac Geek Gab" almost every time the topic of iChat comes up. His and my favorite feature as of yet is the tabbed chatting. On to my ideas. First I would like to state that I have dabbled in all sorts of programming and such and I completely understand how difficult your tasks of iChat improvements have been to develop. I speak for a lot of people when I say that I very much appreciate everything you do. My ideas are for the tabbed chatting. Now, when I think of tabbed chatting, I think of how it works in Safari. Now if you don't already know how it works in Safari, tabbed pages can be spread through several different windows. New windows can be created seperate of other windows that do or don't have tabs already in them. I'd like the ability of separate chat windows with separate tabs. Another Idea is that I'd like, at least as an option, for new chats to pop up as they would normally instead of appearing in a tab. Even the option to possibly drag the new window into a tabbed chat would be great. Once again, I understand that these things take time and you may even be working on these things as I sit here, but just in case you were wondering, I think this is what a lot of people would like. So thanks a lot, and I wish you luck in further development of this great program!

jordan at 2006-04-02 17:02:50 -0400

my ichat with chax just went crazy.... the window goes insane... the bab on the bottom grows and takes over the entire windown.. then the white part where the text goes takes over the entire windown, then the entire window turns solid silver... i still recieve and send messages and others get it ... I just can't see what I am sending/ recieving.... to fix the only way was to uninstall chax and then reinstall it..

Dan Friml at 2006-04-02 19:40:14 -0400

Thanks for this great plugin, donation will be done next week! Anyway, I found one problem with log viewer. I can't access some logs by right click/View Logs. Some of my buddies in my address book have their names with diacritic marks (like: ěščřžýáíé) and I noticed that this problem is always in this case... Would it be possible to fix this problem?

Mike at 2006-04-03 12:28:07 -0400

Awesome!...but two minor issues. If you don't have "disable close buttons on tabs" checked, wouldn't it be more logical to have those buttons close each tab, and the red X in the top left of the window close the entire window -- regardless if there are tabbed chats in there? I think this behavior is more consistent with OS X. Also, shouldn't the contact list resize automatically when expanding/collapsing groups? -- Mine doesn't seem to do this.

Mike at 2006-04-03 12:29:48 -0400

I should clarify: The current behavior is the red X in the top left closes only the active tab, not the entire window. This is inconsistent with other apps that use tabs (IE, Safari)
