Warp 1.2 Beta 1

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

The latest beta of Warp includes a couple minor bug fixes as well as a new floating pager that gives you constant access to your spaces. The pager shows you a live preview of each space; clicking on another space will switch to it. Visibility of the pager can be toggled with a hot key.

Warp Pager

Changes from Warp 1.1.1:

  • Added a floating pager that allows rapid switching between spaces.
  • Click-to-warp floating window no longer appears when dragging items.
  • Fixed wrapping around a single row or column of spaces.
  • The Warp helper application now automatically relaunches when updating.

Warp 1.1.1

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

This version doesn’t contain any new features, but greatly improves how click-to-warp and the activation delay interact with each other. Using the two together should feel much more natural now.

  • Improved click-to-warp behavior to work better with the activation delay
  • Increased borders around hot corners to prevent accidental activation
  • Added traditional Chinese localization (thanks to Jack M. H. Lin)

Warp 1.1

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Warp 1.1 includes the often-requested click-to-warp functionality. Warp’s click-to-warp also serves as a quick preview of what’s running on your other spaces. You can also check out how this feature works by watching this movie.

This verison also includes new localizations and resolves an issue where Warp could trigger while the screen saver is active.

Changes from Warp 1.0.1:

  • Added Click-to-Warp option that displays a live preview of a space when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen. Clicking the preview warps to that space.
  • Warp will no longer activate while the screen saver is running
  • “Warp mouse when switching spaces” is now disabled by default
  • Added German localization (thanks to (Peter Reibel))
  • Added Japanese localization (thanks to Yusuke Sugiyama)

Warp 1.0.1

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

I’ve received a lot of great feedback on improving Warp and I’m doing my best to make improvements based on the feedback. One feature that didn’t make it into 1.0.1 is click-to-warp, but I hope to get that working for the next version.

Some users have reported issues with being unable to switch spaces with command-tab or by clicking on applications in the Dock. As far as I can tell, this issue seems to be a bug in the system itself, although Warp may be helping to trigger the bug. There have been a few threads on Apple’s discussion boards regarding this issue, and some users there have suggested restarting the Dock through the Activity Monitor or with the Terminal. I’m hoping that a future system update will resolve this problem, but I’m continuing to monitor the issue.

Changes from Warp 1.0:

  • Greatly improved handling of multiple monitors
  • Warp now works when dragging items
  • Warp ignores input when Time Machine is active
  • Areas where hot corners would be are now ignored
  • Reduced chance of accidentally warping more than one space at a time
  • Added option to wrap around spaces
  • Added option to ignore edges with the Dock and menubar
  • Added French localization (thanks to Ronald Leroux)
  • Added Italian localization (thanks to Claudio/CreativeShield)

Warp 1.0

Leopard’s keyboard-centric approach to switching spaces has been a bit of an annoyance to me at times and I’ve always liked Xfce’s (and probably other X11 window managers) method of switching virtual desktops by moving the mouse, so I came up with a similar solution that makes it possible to switch spaces with just the mouse. Warp is activated just by moving the cursor to the edge of the screen by default, but there are also options for an activation delay and modifier keys in order to minimize accidental switching. Personally, I find it easier to move my mouse to the edge of the screen while holding the command key rather than reaching for a key combination.

Warp is free, but donations are welcomed and appreciated!
