Sending plain text to ICQ users is finally back thanks to mach_inject. Due to changes in how this feature works, you will now need to enable this feature explicitly in the Chax preferences. Enabling this option will require you to enter an administrator password the first time in order to load into iChatAgent.
Updating with Sparkle from alpha 7 to beta 1 should finally work. Unfortunately, if you’re running a version earlier than alpha 7 you’ll likely need to manually upgrade. The changes made in alpha 7 should put an end to that inconvenience and confusion.
Regarding localizations, the necessary strings to localize Chax and the installer can be found in a zip archive inside the installer’s application package (inside Contents/Resources/ChaxLocalizableStrings.zip). If anyone is interested in localizing Chax and would like instructions on how to test their localization, let me know. Thanks to the localization code made available by Wil Shipley.
Changes from Chax 3.0 Alpha 7:
- (New) Reimplemented sending plain text to ICQ accounts as an option in the preferences
- (New) Option to add a confirmation sheet when closing active AV chats
- (New) Rearranged the preferences window
- (Bug) File transfer auto-accept works properly again
- (Bug) Minor fixes to log viewer
Update: The plain text ICQ option will not work for users running on 32-bit machines. The next update will resolve this problem.

Once activated, paragraph Always send plain text to ICQ users, there is an internal application error and the connection with any protocols are not possible.

This error you describe seems to affect systems in languages other than English. On my Mac everything runs smooth (en-us), my girlfriend’s Mac has the same problem yo described. She’s on German (de-de).

Martin, i use Russian language as a system, you offer to remove the package from the Russian localization of iChat? For me it is not critical if it is working.

The very tried and it does not work. It is clear that the problem is wider. It would be nice if you will be able to work in all system languages.

Changed the system language to English. Failed to start missing you and talking, but the features may not work. Contact ICQ as ever receive html.

Can someone definitively clarify if Chax 3.0 is currently, and will continue to be, only compatible with Snow Leopard (and possibly beyond), i.e. never supporting Leopard? Thanks!

sjk: Chax 3.0 runs on Snow Leopard only. Chax 2.2.2 is the final version for 10.5. You’re not really losing out on much since they have (mostly) equivalent features.

It’s getting better and better, thanks for the hard work! I’ve been using Chax for a while now and I was worried about the prospect of loosing it in SL, but thanks to your efforts iChat is once again well… what it should always have been!

The system of sending messages to ICQ users does not work, when you activate an error. Mac OS in Russian. ICQ users receive HTML code in messages. Pleas,fix it.

iChat still crashes every 10 minutes or so. This is with the Chax 3.0 Beta 1 version, in the latest version of Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
Anyone have ideas on how to get iChat to stop crashing?

when I open iChat, none of my contacts show up. I have to go offline, and then back online for them to show up. any reason?

Just for your info:
A lot of people using ICQ (it does not matter if on Win or Mac) or Adium apps told me, my icq messages are sent with HTML code… I am using last version 3.0 b1 on SL. by the way thanks for your Chax

I still miss the checkbox to go “Away” on Screensaver, and the ability to customize the away message that goes up during such an instance. Can this sneak back into a future release of 3.x?
That said, you still are the essential missing piece of iChat. Keep up the good devwork!

I found using the auto-installer didn’t work this time and still required me to download Chax manually and run the installer that way. Manual installed work perfectly though.
Also, I was wondering if there were a way to enhance the option to ‘mark as away’ when the computer is inactive to include ‘mark as offline’. This way, in those situations where we leave iChat running the system will log us off of any open accounts allowing things like AIM Mobile Forwarding (if setup) to work. Thoughts?

Hi Kent,
Would it be possible to disable Growl messages for people who are online and available but who change their status messages a lot? A bunch of my friends use the feature where they can display their iTunes track in their status, and every three minutes I get a number of Growl notifications saying “x person is online”, but I’ve seen the message already… a hundred times.

I’m getting a rather steady dose of connection issues w/ Chax3b1. iChat is becoming, if not all together, unable to make a network connection to AIM unless I restart my Mac. Then after my next disconnect, it will not reconnect later. Not sure if this is a bug coming from the corresponding iPhone AIM app when it disconnects or not. Will test to see.
Also, my vote is in for returning the Auto Hide feature to Chax.

Kent: Thanks for this latest version. It’s working fine for me with one exception: Once again, I find the “+” button in the All Contacts window doesn’t do anything. While that button appears dark—and, therefore, presumably active—and when hovered over does display the tooltip “Add a new buddy or group”—clicking on the button doesn’t do anything. (If I open the standard AIM Buddy List window, its “+” button works OK.)

I’ve just noticed i got a freeze of my video stream (from my iSight) when plugin is installed.
I’ve tried from 2 différents connexion, with 2 différents friends (1 with SL, and 1 with Leopard).

Chax seems to keep vanishing on my computer. I keep realizing I’m using iChat without Chax when I get text message “invitations” that I have to “accept” in order to see IMs from my friends. I can keep reinstalling 3.0b1 and it claims to be installing successfully, and it seems to work for that session, but the next day I launch iChat again and soon realize Chax is no longer there making it useable. Any advice?
