Chax 1.4.1 Beta 2
Beta two of Chax 1.4.1 includes some more bug fixes from beta one, no new features.
I still haven’t heard from anyone about the .Mac encryption lock, so I don’t know for sure it is works or not. Any feedback on that would be appreciated.
Changes from beta 1:
- Fixed some minor cosmetic issues when using large numbers of tabs
- Fixed a crash when adding or removing contacts from Jabber
- Fixed a problem where the auto-resize contact list option would cause the contact list to slide toward the top of the screen
- Minor changes to the installer to allow for installation when the InputManagers folder permissions are set to root
- The participants drawer now opens only if selecting a group chat
- Auto-resizing the contact list when it near the bottom of the screen will cause it to stay at the bottom edge of the screen

* Auto-resizing the contact list when it near the bottom of the screen will cause it to stay at the bottom edge of the screen
This almost does what I want, but it doesn’t retain the margin. Instead of stopping at the bottom edge, it should keep the same bottom left (or right) corner position.
Thanks for the quick update.

I don’t know if it’s a Chax or iChat thing but when I resize the message window to a specific size I want the width of the window is kept but the height changes. This occurs after quiting.

The encryption is working, and the lock is displayed in the top right of the chat window, but it isn’t clickable. It should be a clickable control that displays a window (what we used to call a modal window, but new terminology now that OS X has that window-shade effect) with info about the digital certificate for the encrypted session.

it’s quite clear to me 1.4.1 is dedicated to bug fixes, if he starts adding requests it’d never get to release because new bugs would spawn up. Allow him to fix current feature sets before asking for a dozen more.

I wasn’t making a feature request. Here’s what was asked when beta 1 was posted:
I was trying to answer his question.

Hi, just like someone said on the macupdate comments page, since 1.4. beta 1, I can no longer see the actual group chat windows. I can see them just fine with the 1.4 stable release. Beta 2 doesn’t solve this problem. Thanks for looking into the issue.

Just a bug report on 1.4.1 Beta 2: Installed it on a Powerbook G4/10.4.6. Install went fine, however when attempting to join a chatroom no window appeared. The chatroom was listed under the Window menu but no physical chat window was to be had. I started a chat with someone in the room who said I was there. Tried a repair permission and a reboot, neither worked. Unistall was the only fix.

Daohead, exactlt the problem I described about. The most recent stable release works fine (1.4)

Chax is great! I have a question:
Is it possible to have a feature where you can stealth your AIM screen name? For example make it invisible but still message your friends? I’ve done this using dead aim, or middle man for windows.
thanks

I would like to see that too!! The invisibility on AIM!! Please try to incorporate that.
April 14th, 2006 at 12:25 am
Invisibility is a server function. Chax is a localized proxy app that just extends local ichat features…I HIGHLY doubt he could add any real invisibility aside from just blocking all users with the quick press of a button. but it’d disable messages too and you’d no longer see your buddylist since aol server side reverse blocks anyone you block to prevent abuse of block feature….the invisible feature IS an aim network feature that’s available in windows clients and some clones though…Hopefully apple will do this one day to bring ichat more up to standards with AIM, which is what they should be doing before trivial things like itunes now playing….You should all submit this feature to http://bugreporter.apple.com!

MysticalOS and everybody else:
So the only way that invisibility would work on ichat would be by having apple configure that? That sucks, I really like the idea of having the stealth settings like yahoo and AIM have. I’ve seen my friends using this plugin on their AIM. The website is the following:
http://middleman.krunchsoftware.com/
Check out the feature section. I like the feature where you can clone accounts, the idle control and of course the invisibility (or ghosting).
I hope there can be some way to incorporate these three features to ichat using Chax.
Thanks Kent

Alex and Daohead – Try deleting the com.ksuther.chax.plist file in /Library/Preferences or ~ Library/Preferences (depending on if you installed for just yourself, or all users) then restarting iChat. You’ll have to reconfigure Chax afterwards, but seems to have sorted it out for me. I was the one who initially posted about this issue at macupdate ; -)

I’d like to see idle control. This is a feature i bet kent can do, as this is a locally controled variable set by client that is set to server.

Look, i love what you have built the one and only thing i would like to see added is the ability to do this…
be able to have more than one tabed chat window… i want to be able to pull a tab , have it become a window then drag other chats into it, and have it show up in a tab….
i think it is a good idea, but what do i know…
keep up all the good work…
