Chax 1.4 Beta 7

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

One more beta, just to make sure I’m not missing anything. This will run until April 20th, as with the previous betas.

Changes since beta 6:

  • Blocking a user from the contact list works again
  • Printing from a tab works
  • Fixed an instance where a tab could possibly get stuck on the “user offline” state
  • Receiving a new chat when using tabs with the deminiaturize notification option works properly now
  • Updated Norwegian localization readded

Chax 1.4 Beta 6

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

Here comes beta 6 of Chax 1.4, hopefully the last beta before a final release. This beta will also run until April 20th.

Changes since beta 5:

  • Further improved tab sizing
  • Add Buddy, Save As, Print Setup and Print now work when using tabs
  • User icons show up in the overflow menu if showing icons is enabled in the preferences
  • Fixed a possible crash when pasting large amounts of text into a chat
  • Fixed a possible crash when moving a tab to a window window

I’ve received a number of suggestions for tabs, especially minor requests to suit personal preferences. These won’t be added for the current version, but in the future some of these suggestions will likely make their way in.

Known issues with this version:

  • Print from a tab can cause errors
  • Blocking a user from the contact list doesn’t work
  • Tabs can get stuck in the “user offline” state
  • Deminiaturize when messaged option doesn’t always work with tabs

Chax 1.4 Beta 5

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

Not much has changed from beta four, except I’m making this beta a public download. Please let me know if you find any problems. Beta five will run until April 20th.

Changes from beta 4:

  • Chax badge in the menus can be disabled in the preferences
  • Text input field now resizes properly when using tabs
  • Tab window doesn’t come to the front when receiving a new message
  • New option for command-[ and ] to switch tabs
  • Improved tab resizing when there are multiple tabs open
  • Two new hidden defaults: BlockAOLSystemMessage and DisableFocusRing. BlockAOLSystemMessage does exactly what it sounds like it does and disable focus ring disables the blue focus ring around the text input line in messages. Enable these options with this terminal command:

defaults write com.ksuther.chax BlockAOLSystemMessage -bool YES (replace BlockAOLSystemMessage with DisableFocusRing to disable the focus ring).

Known Issues:

  • Add Buddy from the Buddies menu doesn’t work properly (fixed for next version)
  • Tabs are too big in some cases (fixed for next version)
  • Possible crash when pasting large amounts of text into a chat (fixed for next version)

Chax 1.4 Beta 4

Tuesday, March 14th, 2006
Here comes the second (or fourth, depending on how you’re counting) beta of Chax 1.4. Almost done, I hope. A peek at some of the tab options:

Changes from 1.4b3:

  • (Bugfix) Mobile user warning now shows when using enter to start a new conversation
  • Tab bar on the bottom now has rounded corners
  • Option to set key equivalent for switching tabs
  • Option to put the tab bar on the top or the bottom of the window
  • Option to hide the tab bar when showing only one tab
  • Option to enable or disable user icons in the tabs
  • Improved drawer behavior with tabs
  • Bug fixes for tabs

The text input field still doesn’t expand to fit text properly when using tabs, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about it.

Again, if you’d like to try out the beta, send me a message and I’ll send you a download link. The next version will hopefully either be a beta with a direct download or a full release.
