Chax 2.2.2 is now available. A couple minor very minor issues have been fixed, and there is now an option to automatically clear complete file transfers. Barring any absolutely huge problems, this is in all probability the final release of Chax for 10.5.

Changes from Chax 2.2.1:

  • (Note) The preference for "Show Text Status" in the View menu has been reset for improved compatibility for future releases
  • (New) Option to automatically clear successful file transfers
  • (New) Can now remove individual items from the activity window with the delete key
  • (New) Added a hidden preference to always send Growl notifications even when iChat is active (defaults write com.ksuther.chax AlwaysShowGrowlNotifications -bool YES)
  • (Bug) Activity window dates now use the system-defined date and time formats
  • (Bug) Fixed the unified contact list position not saving for some localizations
  • (Bug) Reduced log viewer load time
  • (Bug) Suppressed warnings related to Chax when launching garbage-collected applications

I am one of the many who was told Chax reconnects iChat when it disconnects, but it seems that is no longer a Chax feature?? Can you please clarify. And if it isn't, could you please re-add! iChat + Jabber has a HUGE disconnect issue. Thanks!

First of all, thanks for continued development, you're awesome. "(Bug) Fixed the unified contact list position not saving for some localizations" Just thought I'd let you know, that after updating, the unified contacts list always starts at the top of the screen when I first open iChat. It remembers the left-right position, and if I close and re-open the window without quitting iChat, it remembers the vertical position, but when I quit iChat, next time I open it it starts at the top of the screen again.

Reconnecting to Jabber after a disconnect would be great. Was there a particular reason that it was removed?

"Reconnecting to Jabber after a disconnect would be great." Definitely a must-have. Also, I think it's essential to be able to change status/go away/disconnect from individual accounts rather than having a global setting. Thats what is preventing me from using/donating to chax.

Hey Kent, Love Chax but I have two feature requests that I think most Chax users can agree with, and some even mentioned in the comments above: 1. Auto-reconnect (huge deal) 2. Sparkle (for upgrades) Keep up the great work! Oh, and I for one, wouldn't mind if you started charging for this. I think < $5 would be a good deal for users and would certainly help you. :) I <3 Apple/OSX, mainly because I <3 indie developers who make great apps. ~Levi F

AUTO RECONNECT PLEASE!! I'm connecting again and again all day due to my flaky connection! Yet I don't adopt Adium, since I like the iChat + Chax combo! :D Also, my iChat has been crashing a lot since I had Chax 2.2.1. Now trying 2.2.2, let's see.

Hey, I suggest "Growl icon changes". Now, Growl icon is contact list. However, I confuse not to know what is application's notification. I suggest to add Chax or iChat icon on Growl

It'd be awesome if you issued a quick fix for that vertical positioning bug in the All Contacts window I mentioned, it's very minor but very annoying! Thanks again!

I really believe, that you fix chax for Apple iChat on Snow Leopard! Please! I will donate chax ;)

Any EAT on when Chax will be available for Snow Leopard? Thanks!

That's ETA, my bad

pjp at 2009-08-20 17:46:37 -0400

Hoping Chax is updated to work with SL. Otherwise. tell me how am I supposed to live without you, Chax? How am I supposed to carry on?

Devin at 2009-08-20 23:36:22 -0400

Aside from the bug I noted above, I just wanted to come thank you. With the upcoming release of Snow Leopard and the thought of having to use iChat without Chax (I won't switch to Adium right away, I'll still be holding out for a SL compatible release of Chax), I've really been thinking about how great it is. Since it's made so well and blends so seamlessly into iChat, I often forget I'm using it. But things like the All Contacts window and Growl notifications are immense improvements to the iChat experience. Thank you for making such an excellent program, and especially for distributing it freely. I would donate right now, but I just found out my boss bounced his second check to me in a row, and as a result my account has a negative balance. I'm a college student and don't have a lot in the reserves, so unfortunately I'll have to wait until he reimburses me to donate, but I will donate, because I rely on your software daily. I don't know enough about programming to know if Chax will be able to work on Snow Leopard or not (I think I read a comment somewhere that sounded like it might not be) but I can only hope that it will get there. Thank you.

I have 10.6 running, and I have just updated, it still seems that it doesn't work with Snow Leopard. Thanks for the development though, it updated wonderfully on my 10.5.8 mini :)

Kent Sutherland at 2009-08-26 20:51:19 -0400

As many of you are finding out, Chax 2 is completely incompatible with Snow Leopard. I'll be posting more information on Chax and Snow Leopard in the next couple of days.

Joseph at 2009-08-27 00:39:59 -0400

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up, Kent. :-)

Steven at 2009-08-27 17:15:49 -0400

Thanks for the update Kent. I'm on 10.6 and find it miserable without Chax! Help! ;)
